Counselling is for everyone.

Counselling can be an immense help in any season of life — especially those that feel challenging, exhausting, or painful.

But we don’t have to wait until then to offer ourselves the gift of Counselling. We can look to the term Emotional Fitness as a reminder that, much like our physical fitness and health, our emotional and mental wellbeing can be something we actively stay on top of.

Counselling can be a fantastic tool for your personal development, and a vital part of your well-rounded health care plan. In other words, you don’t have to wait until life feels overwhelming before seeking out the support of a licensed Counsellor.

Sometimes, though, life does feel overwhelming — and when it does, Counselling is a wonderful service that offers clinically-guided and professional support, encouragement, and guidance.

How Counselling can support you

Your Counsellor can help you create paths through obstacles, so that you can reach your goals and live a life that feels nourished and fulfilling. This can be anything from navigating your career path, to working through immense depression and grief.

Some of the many circumstances Counselling can help with include:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety, including panic attacks

  • Grief and loss

  • Anger management

  • Separation and divorce

  • Relationships concerns and conflict

  • Alcohol and drug dependency; addictive behaviours

  • Career issues

  • Childhood abuse (physical, emotional, and/or sexual)

  • Low self-esteem

  • Parenting

  • Building social skills and communication skills

  • Guilt

  • Self-defeating behaviours

Working with a Counsellor means having a professional support system in your corner — so it’s an excellent choice if you’re feeling under-resourced and unsure how to navigate your current circumstances.

Perhaps you’re feeling indecisive about a big choice you have to make and would like an objective sounding board, or if you’d like some professional guidance as you navigate your career path or relationships. Counselling is an excellent decision if your declined mental health is affecting your daily life, in ways such as insomnia, irritability, despondency, anxiety, and anger.

Working with a licensed Counsellor can equip you with new strategies and tools for engaging with your life in a way that supports your balanced wellbeing.

EMDR is an effective, transformative tool.

Hali often uses EMDR in her Counselling practice. EMDR — or, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing — is a powerful, modern technique that can support people for whom talk therapy isn’t sufficient in their treatment plan for mental and emotional health.

EMDR is an accelerated, structured type of therapy that can help immensely with processing, learning from, and ultimately releasing painful memories and experiences. EMDR allows us to move past any trauma, negative habits, or emotions that are preventing us from experiencing true freedom, joy, and success.

The way EMDR works is by having the patient briefly focus on a traumatic memory or feeling, while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation — usually eye movements — which reduces the vividness of the experience and its associated memories. It’s proven to be very effective in treating PTSD, as well as anxiety, depression, anger, and so much more.

Patients who have been through an EMDR treatment plan often report feeling an inner peace and calm, positive beliefs about themselves, and feelings of empowerment and control.
