F.A.Q.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

o   your BC Care Card
o   a prescription, if referred by your doctor
o   your claim number, if applicable & available
o   your extended health benefits policy/claim information

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to receive any treatment at Creekside!

However, some insurance companies do require a doctor’s referral before you can be reimbursed, so be sure to check your group benefits plan before your physiotherapy appointment.

The same goes for Massage Therapy: many insurance companies do cover treatments, provided that they’re rendered by a BC Registered Massage Therapist, but may require a doctor’s referral for reimbursement. It’s always best to look into this ahead of time!

For ICBC claims, and some WorkSafeBC claims, a physician’s referral is needed. We’d be happy to assist you in figuring out the requirements for your individual claim.

Can I come to Creekside even if my doctor’s referral is for somewhere else?

Of course! It’s totally up to you where you receive your treatments.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

At your first appointment, we’ll get to know each other and discuss your medical history. After filling out a questionnaire, you’ll receive a physical evaluation from your therapist, during which they’ll test for things like range of motion, muscle strength and quality, and neurological health. Your therapist will ask about your past injuries and any pain you experience. We’ll get to know how your unique body functions and what helps it thrive in its most optimal state of wellness.

How many treatments will I need to have?

This depends on the cause and severity of the issues you’re experiencing, your medical history, and your body’s natural ability to heal. The number of appointments needed can vary greatly between individuals, ranging from just one treatment to regular sessions over many months.

We will be constantly re-evaluating your progress, to make sure your program is working for you!

How should I dress?

You should dress comfortably!  Wear soft, loose clothing that you feel good in. Depending on your area of injury, it is helpful to wear a sleeveless shirt or shorts. Creekside does provide shorts & gowns if you need them.

Is physiotherapy painful?

One of the most important aims of your treatment is pain relief, and many patients experience an immediate decrease in their pain & discomfort!

However, some particular treatments may feel uncomfortable or a little bit intense, depending on the injury and the treatment to correct it. Your therapist will always be as gentle as possible, though, so be sure to communicate to them any discomfort you might be feeling.
